Overview
Sounds Foundations is an independent music education publication at soundsfoundations.com. We collect only the information needed to operate, secure, measure, and improve the publication, respond to people, and—when signup launches—deliver requested email.
We do not sell personal information. We do not require a public account to read lessons. Site registration is currently disabled.
Information we collect
Information your browser and network provide
When you request a page, the hosting and security systems may process your IP address, browser and device details, requested URL, referring page, date and time, response status, and technical headers. This information supports delivery, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, and security.
Searches and interactions
If you use site search, the terms you submit are processed to return matching lessons. Measurement tags may record page views and interaction events in aggregated or pseudonymous form, depending on your browser, consent choices, and the tags active at that time.
Comments
If a comment form is available and you submit it, WordPress may store the form fields, comment, IP address, browser user-agent string, time, and moderation status. An email-derived hash may be sent to Gravatar to check for a profile image. Approved comments and the name you provide may appear publicly.
Newsletter and forms
If newsletter signup becomes available and you choose to subscribe, we expect to collect your email address, optional first name, consent record, subscription status, form metadata, and delivery events such as confirmation, bounce, complaint, unsubscribe, and campaign interaction. The form will use double opt-in and will not subscribe you while confirmation is pending.
Messages
If you contact us, we process the information in your message and the technical details needed to receive, route, secure, and reply to it.
How we use information
- Deliver pages, search results, media, and requested messages.
- Protect the site, identify abuse, and diagnose failures.
- Understand which lessons and navigation paths are useful.
- Moderate comments and reduce spam.
- Manage consent, subscriptions, suppression records, and email delivery.
- Comply with applicable law and enforce site policies.
Service providers and disclosures
We use providers that process information to perform services for the site:
- WordPress and Oxygen provide the publishing and page-building system.
- Cloudflare may process network requests and set strictly necessary security cookies to deliver, protect, and route traffic. SeeCloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Tag Manager manages measurement tags. Tags loaded through it can receive page, device, browser, and interaction information. Seehow Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Google Fonts currently supplies the site fonts, so your browser may request font files from Google when a page loads.
- Gravatar may receive an email-derived hash if you submit a comment. SeeAutomattic’s Privacy Notice.
- FluentCRM and Amazon Simple Email Service are planned for consent records and newsletter delivery. This policy will be reviewed again before the signup form is activated.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, to investigate misuse, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.
Cookies and similar technologies
Strictly necessary cookies may support security, traffic routing, comment preferences, administrator login, and site operation. Cloudflare security features may use cookies such as bot-management or challenge cookies when those features are active.
Measurement or embedded-content services may use cookies, local storage, pixels, or similar identifiers. You can restrict cookies in your browser. Blocking necessary cookies can affect security checks or site functions; blocking measurement cookies should not prevent you from reading public lessons.
How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected, security, legal obligations, dispute handling, and reliable operations. Server and security records follow the retention schedules of the hosting and protection services.
Comments and their metadata may be retained while the comment remains published or moderation history is needed. Newsletter contact data is retained while you are subscribed; limited suppression records may be kept after unsubscribe, bounce, or complaint so we do not send unwanted email. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve the request and meet record-keeping duties.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or information about processing; object to certain uses; withdraw consent; or complain to a privacy regulator. These rights can be subject to legal exceptions and identity verification.
You can unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in each message. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal. Browser controls can limit cookies, and Google provides controls for information associated with its services.
International processing, security, and children
Providers may process information in countries other than your own. Their legal protections may differ, and transfers are handled under the safeguards available to the provider and applicable law.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, but no online service can promise absolute security. Do not send sensitive personal information through public comments or ordinary email.
The lessons may be useful to younger learners, but the site is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from a child who cannot provide valid consent under applicable law. A parent or guardian should contact us if they believe a child submitted personal information that should be removed.
Contact and policy changes
For a privacy request, email [email protected]. Please describe the request and the information or interaction it concerns. We may need to verify your identity before acting.
We will update this page when the data practices, providers, or newsletter workflow materially change. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
